The Chinese character yì

means art, skill, ability, talent, technique, craft. The calligraphy yì by the contemporary Chinese calligrapher Zhang Ruiqi, the former President of the Shaanxi Calligraphy Institute in Xi'an, has been created exclusively for ap arte in 2002 and shows his unique interpretation of yì by using also the characters for dance, people and clouds, which leads to the creative reading of

dancing people on clouds.
